Hunting Figure

This figure is one of the masterpieces of hunting in the Dunhuang wall murals. Two men are depicted, one leaping on a horse deep into the mountains, turning and opening his bow, turning back to shoot a white tiger, and another galloping on a horse, javelin in hand, chasing three fleeing wild deer. The continuous hills between the mountains and forests, as well as the bison and wild boars lazing among them, are depicted with great realism. The characters, birds and animals are active in the mountains and forests, and are represented either in line outlines or painted in blocks of colour, vividly and graphically recreating scenes during the hunt.
